Day 2

Lucian completed day one at a brisk pace, in spite of some serious climbs. He felt pretty good, same as he does after a long ride here. The weather was foggy, which hindered the scenic views, but he could see his route just fine.

Grabbed this photo from the Red Pencils blog. Lucian and a few riders having lunch yesterday.
Here is camp from the first night. Lucian had to wake up some people snoring rather loud around 2am.

The AIDS Lifecycle website describes day 2 as "relatively flat terrain that will take us through the Salinas Valley, also known as Steinbeck Country." I know Lucian was excited to see some areas from East of Eden. He's passed vineyards, strawberry and artichoke fields. One snack stop today was a fresh steamed artichoke at a farm. Here's the pic Lucian texted me.

Today's route from Santa Cruz to King City is the longest – 107.6 miles. Unfortunately, I just heard from Lucian and he missed a turn adding another 10 miles to his day! Send him lots of energy as he pedals this afternoon. It's also windy.
